David Vickers Hi, I'm David Vickers, and I've been with City Voices for approx. 5 years. I joined in response to a notice in the 'Sentinel,' requesting interest from 'creative people.' I soon realised that it was a literary-only group, and I think it came as a bit of a surprise when I mentioned that my main interest was music, which I also write. It was soon agreed that, as Alan Barnett put it, 'a bit of music might not go amiss.' So it was that I came to write several pieces for the two City Voices Festivals, to be used as 'background music' during breaks, e.g. interludes, lunchtimes, etc, when people are milling around. I also introduced some of my other songs and instrumentals. I have put some of them on a CD which is available from myself, (use the Member's Media Page) or from one of the City Voices events. It would be nice to have some commercial (i.e; financial!) success with them, but I think the greatest thrill for me would be to walk down the street and hear someone singing or whistling one of them, simply because they liked it. I would hesitate to call myself a poet, because, although I have written several examples of verse, i.e. 'poems,' this writing was originally prompted by the need to supply lyrics to my songs, and I still consider my song lyrics to be my best verse. I have recently published a compilation of poems, short stories, etc, under the the title of 'Poetry, and suchlike...' and am currently working on a book relating (some of !) my experiences growing of up in the city. This will (hopefully!) be finished later on in the year. (2012.) For more information on what I'm about, projects, etc, please visit my personal website;
