Featured Poem:

City Voices
by Margaret Farn

Come along, we'd like to meet you.
In Hanley Library, we'll greet you:
The Committee will welcome you there.
Yes, there are plenty of chairs for us to share.

Voices we have, so let's use them to cheer.
Or perhaps, just to say "It's nice to be here"
If poetry is not to your taste. Don't worry please
Just come along. We will put you at ease.
Especially if you can write a story.
Sing a song, Dance or Tell a gory ghost story!

Saturdays, don't forget! Just come along!
Join our action packed little throng!
Otherwise you will miss all the fun!
There's no where like it under the sun.

About Us

City Voices is a writer's forum based in The City Library, Hanley. We meet at 12:00pm - 2:00pm on a Saturday usually Bi-weekly. The group is both informal and very friendly, and the ages of the member's ranges from 13 to 80+.

The Chairman of the group, Alan Barnett, chairs the meetings; the format usually revolves around the welcoming of any new member and the discussion of any news or events of interest to the group.

After a short break for refreshments the members are invited to present any new or interesting pieces of writing or poetry to the group. There is never any pressure to perform, but it is an excellent opportunity to have your work heard by people with a genuine interest, and a chance to get constructive feedback and improve your literary skills.

If you would like to get involved you can contact:

Alan Barnett or Jan Ryan using the Contact Us page.

Or simply turn up on the day.
